Commercial HVAC Replacement Planning Before the Unit Fails

By Scott Camire, Owner | A/C Advantage Inc.June 2026

The worst time to plan commercial HVAC replacement is during an outage. Emergency replacement decisions are rushed, expensive, and disruptive. Planning ahead gives owners and managers better choices.

Warning Signs

Repeated repairs, rising energy costs, hard-to-find parts, compressor trouble, comfort complaints, refrigerant issues, and poor maintenance history all point toward replacement planning. A single repair may be manageable. A pattern deserves attention.

What to Plan

Review equipment age, access, crane needs, tenant schedules, business hours, budget timing, warranty, controls, and whether temporary cooling is needed. The goal is to replace equipment with the least disruption possible.
